The Georgia 25-Hour Post-License Course

Georgia requires a Commission-approved post-license course of at least 25 instructional hours within your first year of licensure. It is a separate requirement from continuing education, it cannot be satisfied by the prelicense course you already took, and it carries its own examination.

What the requirement actually is

At least 25 instructional hours of Commission-approved post-license education, completed within your first year of licensure. It must be a course other than the prelicense course, and you must pass its examination for it to count.

Why Georgia requires it

The prelicense course teaches you enough to pass an exam. The post-license course teaches you enough to not harm a client in your first year, which is a different syllabus. It leans practical: contracts in practice, trust account handling, disclosure in real transactions, and the parts of GREC rules that get new agents into trouble.

Put the deadline somewhere you will see it

Now, while the date is obvious. The commonest way this goes wrong is not disagreement about the rule, it is a licensee in month eleven who has been busy and forgot. Confirm your own deadline with GREC rather than counting twelve months from a date you half remember.

Is the post-license course the same as continuing education?

No. They are separate obligations. The 25-hour post-license course applies once, in your first year. Continuing education runs on the 4-year renewal cycle and continues for your whole career.

Can my prelicense course count toward it?

No. The post-license course must be a Commission-approved course that is not the salesperson or broker prelicense course. It is new material, not a repeat.

What happens if I miss the deadline?
