Before you can book
- Finish the 75-hour course, including the proctored school exam at the end. What the course involves.
- Plan your GCIC report timing. It must be dated within 60 days of your exam, so order it after you have a date in mind, not before. How the background check works.
- Have your identification ready. The name on your registration must match your IDs exactly.
Picking a date, honestly
The most common scheduling mistake is booking to create pressure. Picking a near date so that you will be forced to study. It works for some people and costs $175 for the rest. The better sequence is to establish readiness first, then book.
The two clocks worth tracking
The GCIC clock: 60 days from the report date. Get it too early and it expires before your exam.
The post-pass clock: once you pass, the licence fee is $170 within 3 months, $340 between 3 and 12 months, and after 12 months the result expires entirely. That clock starts on the day you pass, not the day you decide to do something about it.
Choosing a test center
PSI operates test centers across Georgia, including in the Atlanta metro area and in cities such as Macon and Savannah. Choose for a calm morning rather than the shortest drive: a center 20 minutes further away with parking you understand beats a closer one you will arrive at flustered. Test center locations.
After you book
Read the exam day checklist at least a week beforehand, not the night before. Two of the four things on it. Matching identification and a valid GCIC report. Cannot be fixed on the morning.
