Georgia Education and Exam Eligibility Validity

Different Georgia documents have different lifetimes. The current PSI bulletin clearly dates the examination payment window, criminal history report, certified reciprocal history, post-pass fee window, and exam-result deadline. It does not support inventing a universal expiration date for every old course certificate.

Facts checked against the current PSI Candidate Information Bulletin and GREC sources. Last reviewed August 2, 2026. Editorial standards.

What is the direct answer?

A PSI examination fee is forfeited if unused within one year of receipt, the criminal history report must be no more than 60 days old at application, reciprocal certified history must be within one year, the standard license fee applies within three months of passing, and an unactivated pass expires after twelve months.

Which official Georgia topic does this cover?

Validity of education evidence, examination payment, application records, and passing results.

What is the Georgia-specific distinction?

The Rule

Do not confuse a school's course-access expiration with the Commission's treatment of completed education. If an older completion is at issue, submit the certificate or transcript to PSI or GREC for an eligibility decision rather than relying on a competitor's blanket claim.

The complete lesson

Course access and course credit are different. Access can end under the school's contract even if a properly completed course certificate remains part of the education record.

The exam fee has its own one-year use condition. That does not grant an extra year after passing; the post-pass activation deadline is a different twelve-month rule starting on the examination date.

Create a document ledger with issue date, controlling event, official window, and source. This prevents a 60-day report from being treated like a one-year license history.

What should you do, in order?

  1. Record the course completion and provider access dates separately.
  2. Use the paid PSI examination within its one-year condition.
  3. Order the criminal report near application.
  4. Keep reciprocal certified history within one year.
  5. Apply promptly after passing and never plan around the twelve-month edge.

Worked example: Two one-year rules

A candidate pays PSI on January 1 and passes on October 1. The candidate assumes the pass remains valid until the next January 1 because that is one year after payment.

The assumption mixes two rules. The payment-use condition was satisfied by testing; the post-pass activation clock now runs twelve months from October 1.

Common traps

  • Equating school access with education validity.
  • Starting the pass-validity clock on the payment date.
  • Giving every application document the same one-year shelf life.

Original knowledge check

1. How old may the criminal history report be at license application?

  1. 30 days
  2. 60 days or less
  3. One year
  4. No limit
Show answer and explanation

60 days or less The bulletin uses a 60-day maximum age.

2. What should a candidate do with a much older course certificate?

  1. Assume it is invalid
  2. Assume it never expires
  3. Submit it for an official eligibility decision
  4. Alter the date
Show answer and explanation

Submit it for an official eligibility decision The authoritative decision should come from the current PSI or GREC process.

Mastery tracking

  • I track access, education, payment, report, and pass windows separately.
  • Every deadline in my plan has a primary source.
  • I know when official review is safer than a blanket answer.

Recommended next lesson

Build the complete deadline calendar. Follow the route that matches your current decision instead of reading licensing pages at random.
