The Rule
PSI publishes the weight for the complete content area, not a fixed question count for this lesson. Learn the rule well enough to apply it when PSI changes names, numbers, or parties in a new scenario.
Complete lesson
Read each concept as part of one decision system. The exam often gives one accurate statement and three statements that belong to a nearby concept.
Linear measurement
Use feet for boundary length, frontage, fencing, or perimeter. Perimeter adds all outside edges; it is not area.
Square measurement
Area is length multiplied by width for rectangles. Break complex floor plans into rectangles or other known shapes rather than multiplying unrelated dimensions.
Acreage
Convert square feet to acres by dividing by 43,560. Convert acres to square feet by multiplying by 43,560.
Frontage and depth
Frontage is the boundary along a street, waterway, or other feature named in the question. A parcel's depth does not substitute for frontage.
Structure measurement
Use the measurement convention stated in the question. Do not add unfinished, open, or excluded areas unless the problem tells you to include them.
Decision rule
Georgia-specific distinction
Worked example
Scenario. A rectangular parcel is 330 feet by 264 feet.
Reason it through. Area is 330 × 264 = 87,120 square feet. Divide by 43,560 square feet per acre.
Answer. The parcel contains 2 acres.
Common exam traps
- Adding length and width for area
- Dividing when converting acres to square feet
- Mixing feet and yards
- Including spaces the question excludes
Original practice questions with detailed explanations
These questions were written for instruction and mapped to the current outline. They are not copied from PSI or any live examination. Choose an answer before opening the explanation.
Question 1How many square feet are in 2.5 acres?
- A. 17,424
- B. 43,562.5
- C. 87,120
- D. 108,900
Show answer and explanation →
Answer: D. 108,900
2.5 × 43,560 = 108,900 square feet.
Question 2What does frontage measure?
- A. Total parcel area
- B. Boundary along the named feature
- C. Building volume
- D. Assessed value
Show answer and explanation →
Answer: B. Boundary along the named feature
Frontage is a linear boundary along a street, water, or other identified feature.
Question 3A 40-foot by 25-foot room contains how many square feet?
- A. 65
- B. 130
- C. 650
- D. 1,000
Show answer and explanation →
Answer: D. 1,000
Area equals length times width: 40 × 25 = 1,000 square feet.
